Job Title: Senior Software Engineer (Python & Distributed Systems) Location: Cambridgeshire, UK (5 days onsite – Central Cambridge & Bourn Quarter)
Contract Length: 12 Months

Overview We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to support and scale software systems inside our Cambridge data collection lab. You will build and integrate backend services for cutting-edge prototype wearables, handling multi-modal sensor streams (audio, video, IMU) to ensure data collection is fast, accurate, and reliable.

Key Responsibilities Develop backend services to integrate prototype wearable devices into data collection pipelines.
Deploy, monitor, and optimize distributed systems ingesting real-time sensor modalities.
Build automated tooling for data validation, system health, and pipeline diagnostics.
Provide onsite troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and network debugging in a live lab environment.
Collaborate with audio/video engineers, technicians, and international research teams.

Requirements Python: 8+ years of professional backend software engineering and data processing experience.
Linux & Automation: Strong Linux systems knowledge and shell scripting (Bash).
Networking & Distributed Systems: Solid understanding of IP networking (IPv4/IPv6, VLANs, routing) and building RESTful/concurrent distributed systems.
APIs: Practical experience with modern frameworks like FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
Work Arrangement: 100% onsite in Cambridgeshire across central Cambridge and Bourn Quarter facilities.
