Our client is a well-established engineering business looking for a Mechanical Engineering Draftsperson to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys turning ideas into practical, buildable solutions and wants to see their designs come to life in the workshop and out in the field. Working closely with the Managing Director, General Manager, workshop team, and customers, you'll be involved in a diverse range of projects spanning precision engineering, mechanical equipment, fabricated assemblies, reverse engineering, and new product development.
What you'll be doing
- Creating accurate 3D CAD models and detailed manufacturing drawings
- Producing machining, fabrication, assembly, and installation documentation
- Designing practical engineering solutions for a variety of mechanical projects
- Reverse engineering existing components and equipment to develop improved solutions
- Supporting product development from concept and prototyping through to production
- Collaborating with engineers, workshop staff, and customers to ensure designs are practical and fit for purpose
- Checking drawings for accuracy, tolerances, and material specifications
- Maintaining drawing records, revisions, and document control systems
What we're looking for
- 2+ years' experience in a Mechanical Draftsperson or similar drafting role
- Strong 3D CAD modelling and detailed 2D drawing skills
- Understanding of machining, fabrication, and welding processes
- Knowledge of engineering drawing standards and tolerancing
- Excellent attention to detail and a practical hands-on mindset
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and workshop teams
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor is advantageous
- A relevant engineering qualification (such as NZDE Mechanical) is beneficial but not essential
