The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Software Engineer to join our Platform Services team in Christchurch. In this role, you'll contribute to the design, development, deployment, and support of scalable, highly available cloud-based systems that power our products and services, working closely with a cross-functional team to deliver reliable solutions for our customers.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Develop, test, deploy, and support high-quality, production-ready software solutions.
- Design and implement scalable backend services and cloud-native applications.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and deliver new capabilities.
- Break down complex technical challenges and contribute to practical, maintainable solutions.
- Create and maintain software designs and technical documentation aligned with engineering standards and security best practices.
- Participate in code reviews, pull requests, and peer feedback activities to maintain code quality and promote knowledge sharing.
- Build and support integrations across desktop applications, cloud services, and customer-facing web applications.
- Contribute to Agile delivery practices while continuously learning, improving, and sharing knowledge with the team.
- Support operational excellence through monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong hands-on experience developing software in Python.
- Experience designing and building cloud-based applications and services.
- Familiarity with AWS, GCP, or other modern cloud platforms.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.
- An interest in backend and distributed systems development.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- Excellent communication skills and a continuous learning mindset.
- Services and serverless functions built primarily in Python and Java.
- A range of AWS and GCP services.
- Automated deployment pipelines using GitHub Actions and infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Monitoring, observability, and operational tooling including Datadog.
Office-based working environment, work from our Christchurch office three or more days per week.
