Petone Engineering is a well established structural steel fabrication and erection company based in Seaview, Lower Hutt. We work on a wide range of commercial construction projects throughout the Wellington region.
We're looking for an experienced and reliable Class 2 HIAB Truck Driver to join our team.
This is more than just a driving role. You'll be responsible for transporting, loading and unloading structural steel using our truck-mounted crane, helping ensure materials are delivered safely and efficiently to our construction sites.
You'll play an important role in keeping our workshop and site operations running smoothly, working closely with our fabrication and site teams to coordinate deliveries and manage the movement of steel.

About the Role
Your key responsibilities will include:
Operating our Class 2 HIAB truck to transport structural steel and materials between our workshop and construction sites
Safely operating the truck-mounted crane to load and unload steel and other materials
Ensuring all loads are correctly secured and transported in accordance with load restraint requirements
Coordinating deliveries with our workshop, logistics and site teams
Carrying out daily vehicle and crane inspections and reporting maintenance requirements
Maintaining a high standard of health and safety during all loading, unloading and delivery activities
Taking care of company vehicles and equipment
Assisting with general logistics and material handling tasks as required
What We're Looking For
A current NZ Class 2 driver's licence (or higher)
NZQA Unit Standard 16617, Skill Standard 40835, or an equivalent recognised truck loader crane qualification
At least two years' relevant driving experience, ideally including HIAB or truck-mounted crane operation
Experience transporting structural steel or other heavy construction materials would be an advantage
Good knowledge of load restraint and safe lifting practices
A strong commitment to health and safety
Good communication skills and the ability to work well with workshop and site teams
A reliable, practical approach with good time management skills
A positive attitude and willingness to get stuck in and help the team
A forklift licence would be an advantage but is not essential.
