Veterinary Nurse – Surgical & Dentistry Referral | MVRC, Manukau
Manukau Veterinary Referral Centre (MVRC) is looking for a confident, compassionate Veterinary Nurse to join our fun, supportive and highly collaborative team. As a privately owned referral clinic in the heart of Manukau, we provide exceptional care for orthopaedic and soft-tissue surgery, alongside advanced dentistry.
This is a full-time role with no weekend work —because a rewarding veterinary career should also leave room for life outside work. We also close over the Christmas and New Year period, giving our team valuable time to rest and recharge.
Why MVRC?
Our nurses are at the heart of our clinic. Without the distractions of general-practice consults, you can focus on the parts of nursing that make a real difference: advanced anaesthesia, surgical support, dentistry, and exceptional patient care.
You will join a close-knit team of two veterinarians and six nurses, where everyone’s contribution matters. We value a positive team dynamic, open communication, shared learning and supporting one another through busy days.
We offer:
Competitive remuneration
A fun, welcoming and genuinely supportive team culture
Strong work-life balance, with no weekends or after hours.
Christmas and New Year clinic closure
CPD allowance and meaningful ongoing clinical development
Hands-on training to build advanced referral nursing skills.
Employer-funded eligible professional memberships and registrations
Opportunities to grow your role around your clinical interests.
An engaged leadership team that welcomes ideas, feedback, and positive contributions
A modern workplace with a strong ethical framework
What the role involves
Our varied caseload includes cruciate and fracture repairs, soft-tissue surgery, root canals, and complex dental extractions. You will be involved in every stage of the patient journey, including:
Supporting clients and referring clinics throughout the referral process
Admitting, preparing, and discharging surgical and dental patients
IV catheter placement, induction, and patient preparation for surgery
Advanced anaesthetic monitoring, recovery, and post-operative care
Scrubbing in and assisting with surgery
Managing inpatient care
General radiography
Cleaning, maintaining, and managing surgical instruments and equipment.
We also work with a Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia Specialist when required and provide 24-hour inpatient support in partnership with Manukau After Hours Veterinary Clinic.
What you will bring
A Diploma in Veterinary Nursing, Bachelor of Veterinary Technology, or equivalent qualification
At least one year of general-practice experience preferred; enthusiastic new graduates with a strong willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.
Experience with general anaesthesia and surgical nursing, or a strong desire to develop these skills.
Excellent patient-care standards and a calm, compassionate approach
A proactive attitude, sound attention to detail and ability to anticipate what needs doing.
The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team.
Strong communication skills and a confident phone manner
Registration with AVPRC/NZVNA, or willingness to work toward registration with our support.
Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
If you are looking for a role where you can grow your skills, enjoy your team, be fairly rewarded and still have time for the things that matter outside work, we would love to hear from you.
