Construction Manager | Cromwell, South Island

Help build something from the ground up

Elevate Homes is expanding into the South Island and establishing a new construction base in Cromwell.

We are looking for the right person to become a key part of that growth and play an important role in the success of our South Island operation.

This is more than simply a Construction Manager position. It is an opportunity to join Elevate at an exciting stage of its development, work closely with the Director and wider team, and help shape how the South Island side of the business operates and grows.

Elevate Homes is changing the traditional perception of transportable and prefabricated housing. We create architecturally designed, high-quality transportable homes with the design, materials, detailing and level of finish expected from a high-end residential build, while taking advantage of a smarter and more controlled construction process.  Our homes are constructed in a dedicated yard environment, substantially completed before being transported to the client's property.

The Role

The Construction Manager will take responsibility for the day-to-day construction management of Elevate homes through the Cromwell yard.

This is not a traditional, desk-based Construction Manager position.  You’ll be managing the build process, scheduling, subcontractors/suppliers, workmanship quality, health and safety, and site operations to ensure each home progresses smoothly through construction.

You’ll also work closely with our Director and established Cambridge team, acting as their eyes and ears on the ground.  Therefore you will need to be comfortable working autonomously, particularly in our growth phase.  You will be relied upon to communicate openly, raise issues early, make sensible decisions and keep the Director informed of what is happening across the South Island operation.

Initially you’ll help bring the new yard and show home into operation, then manage client builds and help shape the South Island business and nurture future staff members who come on board as the business grows.  We want the successful person to become someone who knows the South Island operation inside out and has a real voice in how it develops.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the construction of Elevate homes through the Cromwell yard.

  • Preparing and maintaining construction schedule.

  • Coordinating builders, subcontractors and suppliers.

  • Ensuring materials, trades and information are available when required.

  • Monitoring workmanship, quality and compliance with Elevate standards.

  • Identifying construction issues early and working through practical solutions.

  • Managing inspections and construction-related requirements.

  • Managing site health and safety.

  • Maintaining a safe, organised and professional construction yard.

  • Helping manage and maintain the Elevate Site Office and yard.

  • Developing strong relationships with local contractors and suppliers.

  • Coordinating completion and preparation of homes for transport.

  • Working with transport contractors around delivery and installation.

  • Providing regular updates to the Director and working closely with the wider Elevate team on builds, progress, upcoming requirements and any issues.

  • Helping establish and continually improve construction systems and processes as the South Island operation grows.

  • Supporting the wider Elevate team wherever required.

Who will thrive here?

We are looking for someone with:

  • Strong residential construction knowledge and a practical understanding of how homes are built.

  • You may already be working as a Construction Manager, Site Manager or Project Manager A builder, foreman, site supervisor or construction professional ready for broader responsibility.

  • Someone with sound residential construction knowledge who can programme work, coordinate trades and uphold quality.

  • A self-starter who communicates openly, makes sensible decisions and builds trust.  Is happy to work autonomously (particularly during the early establishment phase).

  • A genuine team player who enjoys variety, practical work and taking ownership — not someone looking for a purely managerial office role, we need someone who is happy to get involved wherever required.

Why Elevate?

This is a chance to join early, have a real say in how the Cromwell operation develops and grow with the business. You’ll have the backing of an established team and the autonomy to make a difference.

For the right person, this could be a genuine opportunity to move their career forward and become an important part of a growing business.

If you enjoy construction, like being hands-on, want more responsibility and want to be part of the success of a growing business rather than simply work within one, this could be a great opportunity.

Interested? Apply with your CV and a brief cover letter explaining your construction background and why this hands-on opportunity appeals to you.
