EDGE Consulting Engineers is seeking an Intermediate Structural Engineer to join our Canberra team on a part-time basis (3-4 days per week). This opportunity is ideal for an experienced engineer returning from parental leave, balancing family commitments, or simply looking for greater flexibility while continuing to work on interesting residential projects.
You'll be supported by a collaborative team, given autonomy in your work, and have the flexibility to structure your week in a way that works for you.
The Opportunity
As part of our growing Canberra office, you will work predominantly across a diverse range of residential projects including:
New homes
Extensions and renovations
Townhouses
Small multi-residential developments
Structural inspections and assessments
You will work closely with senior engineers and drafters while managing your own projects and client relationships.
Whether you're looking for 3 or 4 days per week, we're open to designing a role that suits the right person.

The Role
Your responsibilities will include:
Structural design of residential projects
Engineering assessments and site inspections
Preparation and review of calculations and documentation
Liaising with builders, architects, certifiers and homeowners
Managing project delivery and client expectations
Assisting graduate and junior engineers where appropriate
Contributing to quality assurance and technical standards
About You
We're looking for someone who brings:
Degree qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering
3-8 years' experience in residential structural consulting
Strong understanding of Australian residential construction
Excellent communication and client management skills
Ability to work autonomously and manage project deadlines
Experience with timber, steel, masonry and concrete residential structures
Chartered status or working towards Chartered accreditation (desirable)
Most importantly, you're someone who enjoys residential engineering and wants a role that offers both professional challenge and personal flexibility.
