Quantity Surveyors – Christchurch, Wanaka, or Queenstown

Grow your QS career with variety, strong mentoring, and real support — whatever stage you are at.

Keystone Business Services is proud to partner with Focus Project Services in its search for qualified and experienced Quantity Surveyors to join its dynamic team.

Focus Project Services is growing, and is looking for strong, career-minded Quantity Surveyors — from Intermediate through to highly experienced Senior level — to join our team. You will work on both client-side and builder-side engagements — never both on the same project — for clients in Christchurch and across New Zealand.

If you are a self-starter ready to take ownership of your own projects, and you want the backing of a highly regarded team — whether that means training toward Senior QS or bringing your Senior-level experience to a growing business — we would like to hear from you.

Location and working style

The roles are flexible on location:

●        Christchurch: based in our Christchurch office

●        Wanaka: based in our Wanaka office

●        Queenstown: working in a hybrid arrangement

Wherever you are based, the roles are full time, Monday to Friday.

What you will be doing

You will manage your own portfolio of projects across a broad range of building types, including retirement villages, apartments, commercial and warehousing, and high-end architectural work.

Client-side

●        Measuring design documentation to NZ standards and providing ongoing cost advice

●        Supporting procurement, tender evaluation, and value engineering

●        Administering contracts: progress claims, payment schedules, variations, and final accounts

●        Monitoring project costs, cashflow and forecasts, and reporting clearly to clients

Builder-side

●        Preparing take-offs, pricing, and tender submissions

●        Sourcing subcontractor quotes, and managing subcontractor letting and administration

●        Preparing payment claims, variations and cost reports, and tracking margins

What we are looking for

●        A tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or a related field

●        At least three years’ demonstrable and successful QS experience in the NZ construction sector

●        PQS experience, plus hands-on construction experience or builder-side QS experience (preferred)

●        A strong understanding of the construction industry, across both commercial and architectural residential work

●        Solid skills in cost planning, measurement, and contract administration

●        Working knowledge of NZ construction contracts and the Construction Contracts Act 2002

●        A self-managing self-starter who takes ownership of their work and their projects

●        A strong builder of positive, engaging relationships, with the ambition to become a trusted advisor to clients

●        Real pride in accuracy, detail, and the quality of your work

●        Proficiency with CostX (or similar) and MS Office

●        NZIQS or RICS membership, or progress toward it

What is on offer

●        Competitive salary based on experience

●        Variety: a broad mix of sectors, project types and clients across New Zealand

●        Real development: a structured development plan with regular reviews — a clear pathway to Senior QS if that is your next step, and genuine scope to keep growing if you are already there

●        Mentoring: support from a highly regarded team of senior QSs and Directors, whether you are training toward Senior QS or sharpening your craft at that level already

●        A sustainable week: Monday to Friday, in a team that plans its work effectively

●        Location choice: Christchurch, or Central Otago working from our Wanaka office or in a hybrid arrangement if based in the Queenstown area

●        A great team: a collaborative, growth-focused culture

●        Support for your professional growth, including NZIQS membership and ongoing CPD
