Are you exceptionally organised, great with people, confident with dogs and comfortable working in a busy, ever-changing environment?
Greyhounds as Pets (GAP), New Zealand's oldest and largest greyhound rehoming agency, is looking for an Upper North Island Greyhound Rehomer to join our team.
This is a unique and rewarding role that combines relationship management, practical problem-solving, administration and hands-on work with greyhounds as they transition from racing into family homes.
About the role
Rehoming greyhounds has a lot in common with recruitment or sales. It's about getting to know people, understanding their needs and circumstances, and matching them with the right greyhound. It takes thoughtful questions, sound judgement, determination and the ability to manage expectations to find a match that works for both the person and the dog. You'll manage multiple greyhounds, adoption applicants and foster carers at different stages of the rehoming process, coordinating everything from initial assessments and matching through to meet-and-greets, collections and adoptions. No two days are quite the same. Plans change, information isn't always complete, and competing priorities need to be managed. The ability to work under pressure, navigate ambiguity and confidently troubleshoot is essential.
Key responsibilities
Managing adoption applications, assessing suitability and matching applicants with greyhounds
Building positive relationships with applicants, adopters, foster carers, kennel operators and other stakeholders
Coordinating and conducting meet-and-greets, home assessments, greyhound collections and adoptions
Managing multiple cases and priorities while keeping the rehoming process moving
Following established rehoming procedures and maintaining accurate, timely records
Identifying and resolving issues, using sound judgement and knowing when to escalate
Travelling regularly throughout the Upper North Island, including adoptions and events in Auckland and at least twice-weekly visits to our kennels in Cambridge and Te Kuiti
About you
Exceptional organisation and administration skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to ask thoughtful questions, build trust and manage expectations
Confidence working under pressure and with ambiguity, using initiative and practical problem-solving to keep things moving
A proven track record of proactively pursuing opportunities and turning interest into commitment, with the drive and confidence to follow through, overcome obstacles and achieve results
