This is a highly rewarding and challenging field-based role that places you at the heart of our community. As a Safety Officer, you'll build positive relationships with businesses, residents, and visitors while maintaining a visible presence that promotes safety, prevents harm, and helps reduce nuisance and anti-social behaviour in public spaces.

As such, resilience, sound judgement, emotional intelligence, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are essential.
This role is physically demanding and requires officers to spend significant periods on foot, respond to dynamic situations, and work confidently in a range of environments and weather conditions. A good level of physical fitness, personal resilience, and a commitment to professional conduct are key to success.
Hamilton City Council provides extensive training and support to ensure our officers are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to perform their duties safely and effectively.
Some Safety Officers may also progress into CCTV Monitoring roles, providing proactive monitoring of the city-wide camera network and working closely with NZ Police to support incident response, investigations, and offender accountability.
