Central Districts Water is a new water services organisation being established to deliver drinking water, wastewater and stormwater services across Palmerston North, Rangitīkei and Horowhenua from 1 July 2027.

We're looking for experienced, hands-on Project Managers to help bring our ambitious establishment programme to life.

About the role | Mō te tūnga

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in establishing a new organisation that will provide essential services to our communities for generations to come.

Working alongside our Senior Programme Manager, Establishment Director and workstream leads, you'll help turn plans into action, keeping projects moving, connecting people and ensuring we're ready to deliver from Day 1.

You'll take responsibility for managing key projects and workstreams across a complex programme covering everything from operations and digital systems to people, finance and customer services.

Your focus will be on:

  • Driving project delivery, keeping milestones, priorities and outcomes on track.

  • Bringing teams together to manage dependencies, resolve challenges and maintain momentum.

  • Identifying risks and issues early and finding practical solutions.

  • Working collaboratively with stakeholders, including our three shareholding councils.

  • Supporting transition planning and ensuring the organisation is ready to operate from Day 1.

About you | Mōhou ake

You're an experienced Project Manager who thrives on variety, enjoys solving problems and knows how to get things done.

You'll bring:

  • Proven experience delivering complex projects or significant workstreams.

  • Strong planning, coordination and stakeholder management skills.

  • The confidence to navigate competing priorities and work across multiple teams.

  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the ability to turn plans into results.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build productive relationships.

Experience in transformation, organisational establishment, infrastructure or the public sector would be an advantage, but we're equally interested in your practical delivery experience and ability to make things happen.

Why join us?

This is a unique opportunity to be part of something from the beginning. You'll work with passionate people, tackle interesting challenges and make a tangible contribution to establishing an organisation that will serve our communities well into the future.

This is a fixed-term opportunity supporting the establishment and initial stabilisation of Central Districts Water, with an anticipated end date of 30 September 2027 (to be confirmed).

We'd love to hear from you. Apply now and help shape the future of water services in our region.

Please note: Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and we may progress suitable candidates during the advertising period. This means the advertisement may be removed before the advertised closing date, so we encourage you to apply early.
