If you’re a sparky who loves figuring out how things work, why they don’t and how to make them better, you might have just found your next move.
WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU – AND WHY THIS ROLE IS DIFFERENT
Let’s be honest.
Plenty of companies talk about culture, development and looking after their people.
We'd rather actually do it.
EAS is a well-established Hamilton electrical business and part of the EAS Group – Specialist Industrial Electricians with branches in Hamilton and the Bay of Plenty.
Together we're building a seriously capable industrial electrical, automation and instrumentation team - and we want great people to build it with us.
You'll work across a wide range of industrial customers and equipment. Some days you'll be delivering a planned project. Other days you'll be standing in front of a machine that's stopped, production is backing up and everyone wants to know “what the hell is wrong with it?”
If you like variety, solving problems and seeing the result of your work in the real world, you'll fit right in.
YOUR MISSION – SHOULD YOU CHOOSE TO ACCEPT IT…
Deliver outstanding electrical solutions to our customers – always.
You’ll be working on a wide variety of interesting projects across the Waikato and sometimes further afield including:
PLC & automation systems
Motor control & VSDs
Instrumentation & thermography
Wireless automation
Industrial chillers
Solar & EV charging
Industrial breakdowns and fault-finding
Coolstores and industrial refrigeration
Plant upgrades and modifications
Preventative maintenance
Industrial projects and shutdowns
Commissioning new equipment and systems
…and more
Some jobs start with a set of drawings and a clear plan.
Others start with “this bloody thing isn't working and nobody knows why.”
Both are part of the job.
And that's exactly how we like it.
THE PERSON WE’RE REALLY LOOKING FOR
Qualifications matter.
But so does how you operate when nobody is standing over your shoulder.
We're looking for someone who takes pride in their work, thinks before they act and doesn't walk past a problem because technically it belongs to someone else.
Someone who can talk to a customer, work alongside an apprentice, get stuck into a breakdown and ask for help when they need it.
High standards. Low ego.
Ideally, you'll bring:
NZ electrical qualification and current EWRB registration
Industrial electrical experience
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
Experience with motors, VSDs, machinery and control systems
The ability to read electrical drawings and understand control circuits
Confidence running your own work
The ability to work with and develop apprentices
Great communication skills
Pride in doing quality work
A full, clean NZ driver's licence
A positive, accountable attitude
Experience with PLC systems, instrumentation, automation, industrial refrigeration or process plant would be a big advantage.
But here's the important bit.
DON'T HAVE INDUSTRIAL EXPERIENCE YET?
Don't automatically count yourself out.
If you're a capable electrician who's become bored doing the same work and you've always wanted to get into industrial, automation or controls, we'd still like to hear from you.
We can teach technical skills.
It's much harder to teach curiosity, ownership, common sense and giving a sh!t about doing a good job.
If you've got those, have a conversation with us.
WHERE COULD THIS GO?
This isn't about finding another electrician to fill a gap in the roster.
EAS is growing as part of the wider EAS Group, and we're building greater capability across the Bay of Plenty.
That creates opportunities.
You might want to become a seriously good industrial electrician.
You might want to specialise further in automation, instrumentation or controls.
Or longer term you might see yourself leading projects, developing apprentices or taking on more responsibility.
You don't need to want management to build a great career here.
We'll back good people who want to keep getting better.
THE TEAM YOU’RE JOINING
We're pretty straightforward.
We work hard, have high standards, enjoy a bit of banter and back each other when things get difficult.
No massive egos. No hiding behind job titles. No throwing someone else under the bus when something goes wrong.
Our values describe how we expect people to operate:
DO BETTER, BE BETTER
We're always looking for a better way. Learn, improve and don't settle for “that'll do”.MAHI TAHI – WORK TOGETHER AS ONE
No silos. Share what you know, help your teammates and get the job done together.OWN YOUR SH!T
Take responsibility. If something goes wrong, communicate, sort it and learn from it.GROW TOGETHER
Keep developing your skills and help the people around you develop theirs.PEOPLE MATTER
Technical capability matters, but so does how you treat your teammates, customers and suppliers.
That's the culture we're building across JWE and the wider EAS Group.
WHAT DO YOU GET?
We want great people, and we're prepared to invest in them.
You'll get:
$40–$55 per hour, depending on capability and experience
Company vehicle and phone
Paid training and development
A huge variety of industrial work
Opportunities to develop further into automation, controls and instrumentation
A packed team calendar that's planned ahead so you can actually organise your life around it
Regular team catch-ups, BBQs and social events
The opportunity to have a say in where the business goes next
And because EAS is now part of the EAS Group, you'll also have a wider team of industrial electricians, automation specialists and project people to learn from and work alongside.
AND YES, AI IS COOL…
We're into technology. We're interested in AI. And if it can save you half an hour doing something boring, we're probably all for it.
So, use it to tidy up your CV if you want.
But don't get ChatGPT to tell us you're a “highly motivated electrical professional passionate about delivering innovative solutions in a dynamic environment.”
Because that tells us absolutely nothing about you.
We want to know who you actually are.
Tell us about the job you smashed out of the park. The breakdown that nearly beat you. The type of work you love doing. What you want to learn next. Or why you're looking for something different.
Perfect grammar isn't required.
Being a good human is.
SOUND LIKE YOU?
You don't need to write us an essay.
Apply with:
Your CV or LinkedIn profile
A short introduction about yourself
A bit about the electrical work you've been doing
And tell us about one job, breakdown or project you're particularly proud of and why
We're reviewing applications as they come in, so if you're interested, don't wait.
Life is about moments… is this yours?
And if you're not looking but you've got a mate who'd be bloody good here, we'll pay a $500 referral fee if we hire them and they stick around for at least three months.
We don't want any muppets.
