Bring your therapeutic‑products expertise and regulatory judgement to a role that directly shapes responsible health advertising in New Zealand.
The Association of New Zealand Advertisers (ANZA) is seeking an experienced professional to join the Therapeutic Advertising Pre-Vetting Service (TAPS) as an independent adjudicator in 2027. TAPS provides independent expert assessment and practical guidance to help advertisers meet New Zealand advertising standards and legal requirements.
This is a distinctive opportunity for someone with strong regulatory judgement, sound scientific literacy and a constructive client-service approach. You will review proposed therapeutic and health advertising across television, audio, print, outdoor, websites, social media and digital campaigns, from early concepts and scripts through to finished material.
The opportunity
This is a specialist role for someone who already operates at a senior level and is used to providing constructive guidance and advice to colleagues and others.
Working autonomously within a small, highly experienced adjudicator team, you will:
· Assess advertising claims, required statements, risk information and supporting substantiation against applicable legislation, regulations and advertising codes
· Identify compliance issues and explain required changes clearly and constructively
· Apply practical, defensible judgement and decline approval where the submitted advertising does not meet applicable requirements
· Consult with fellow adjudicators on complex or precedent-setting matters and contribute to consistent TAPS practice
· Maintain accurate electronic records and meet the standard TAPS turnaround of three working days
· Keep current with regulatory change, scientific and medical developments, advertising practice and emerging digital and AI-related risks.
About you
You will bring substantial experience in therapeutic product regulation, medicines, pharmacy, healthcare compliance or a closely related field, supported by strong scientific literacy and the ability to interpret legislation, regulations and advertising codes.
You are confident analysing claims and evidence, writing clear guidance, and making independent decisions. High integrity, disciplined administration and a constructive client‑service approach are essential.
You will need:
· A relevant tertiary qualification and substantial experience in therapeutic product regulation, medicines, pharmacy, healthcare compliance or a closely related field
· Demonstrated knowledge of New Zealand therapeutic advertising requirements and the ability to interpret legislation, regulations and advertising codes
· The ability to analyse advertising claims and critically assess scientific or technical evidence
· Clear, concise written communication and the confidence to make independent decisions
· High integrity, sound conflict-management judgement and disciplined electronic administration
· The ability to work reliably and collegially while managing variable workflow.
Experience with Medsafe or another regulator, a therapeutic products company, pharmacy, regulatory affairs, healthcare advertising, TAPS or the ASA code system would be advantageous. Knowledge across medicines, medical devices, natural health products, dietary supplements and health services would also be valuable.
Working arrangements
The role is an open-ended independent contractor engagement. Work is undertaken primarily remotely using the adjudicator’s own suitable workspace, hardware and software. Work volumes vary, and urgent requests are accepted only where capacity permits and the agreed TAPS process is followed.
The adjudicator is paid an hourly rate for work completed, on monthly invoice, with payment made on the 20th of the following month. ANZA provides professional indemnity assurance.
ANZA may appoint one person with substantial availability or more than one person working part-time. Client and category allocations will reflect the successful candidate or candidates’ experience, availability and conflicts of interest.
A structured three-month handover is planned from 1 April to 30 June 2027, progressing from observation to jointly managed cases and then leading transferred work with oversight.
How to apply
Apply through SEEK with your CV and a covering letter outlining your relevant regulatory or therapeutic-products experience, your familiarity with advertising requirements, and your expected availability from April 2027.
Applications close: 10 November 2026
Expected availability/workload: Varies according to client demand, a typical month would be 40+ chargeable hours.
ANZA welcomes applications from suitably qualified people throughout New Zealand.
