Intermediate Civil Engineer – Land Development & Infrastructure

S&L Land Specialists | Permanent position
Hamilton or Cambridge preferred | Tauranga also considered

See your designs built. Develop your technical skills. Take greater ownership of your work.

If you enjoy civil design and want to understand how your decisions perform on site, this role brings both sides of engineering together.

Join S&L Land Specialists and contribute to land development and infrastructure projects from concept and consenting through detailed design, construction and completion. You’ll bring practical design experience and have experienced senior engineers to draw on as you develop further.

About the role

This is a permanent opportunity for an Intermediate Civil Engineer who enjoys solving technical problems, working with contractors and seeing projects through. Your work will combine Civil 3D design, three waters infrastructure, earthworks, roading and stormwater modelling with construction monitoring and project delivery support. You'll take responsibility for your technical work, coordinate with other disciplines and help resolve the practical issues that arise during construction. The scope of your responsibilities will reflect your experience, with senior engineering support available.

Key responsibilities

  • Civil Design: Prepare Civil 3D designs and engineering drawings for earthworks, grading, cut/fill, roads, accessways, intersections and pavements.

  • Three waters and Stormwater: Design water supply, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure, including pipe networks and overland flow paths. Undertake hydrology, hydraulic assessments and HEC-HMS catchment modelling.

  • Consenting and Approvals: Prepare engineering calculations, design reports, resource consent information and engineering approval documentation.

  • Construction Monitoring: Carry out site inspections, review quality records and testing, and check works against drawings, specifications and consent requirements.

  • Practical Problem Solving: Respond to construction queries, coordinate with contractors and consultants, and help resolve site issues.

  • Construction Delivery: Support contract administration, programme and progress monitoring, construction meetings, practical completion, defects inspections and project close-out.

About you

  • A relevant civil engineering qualification.

  • Civil engineering experience at an intermediate level—typically around 3–7 years, with relevant capability more important than a fixed number of years.

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D.

  • A good understanding of three waters infrastructure, with experience in land development, roading or earthworks.

  • The ability to prepare clear calculations, reports and engineering documentation.

  • Good communication skills and a practical approach to working with colleagues, contractors and local authorities.
