About Te Kupenga Hauora Ahuriri

At Te Kupenga Hauora Ahuriri, our kaupapa is to whakamana whānau and support their journey towards independence and wellbeing.

Based in Napier, our team of around 70 kaimahi delivers a broad range of health, housing and social services across Ahuriri and the wider Hawke’s Bay. We have supported our communities since 1994, continually evolving how we work to better meet whānau needs.

About the role

We are recruiting a Psychologist to help establish Ka Tipu Ka Ora, a community-led, kaupapa Māori-grounded service supporting tamariki and whānau affected by possible Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).

With new funding for a three-year pilot, the service will strengthen care pathways, increase access to diagnostic assessments and connect whānau with ongoing support. This role offers the opportunity to influence how the service develops, working alongside whānau and multidisciplinary colleagues.

You will work closely with the Child Development Service (CDS) and multidisciplinary colleagues to contribute psychological expertise to diagnostic assessment and understanding each tamaiti’s developmental needs.

Through assessment, formulation and clear communication, you will help whānau and the professionals around them understand strengths, challenges and appropriate support. Your practice will be culturally responsive and mana-enhancing, recognising the importance of whakapapa, identity and connection.

About you

You are a registered psychologist with a current practising certificate and a commitment to improving outcomes for tamariki and whānau.

Experience working with tamariki and rangatahi would be valuable. We also welcome clinicians with relevant transferable experience who are motivated to bring their skills to this service.

You will bring:

  • Strong assessment skills and sound professional judgement within your scope of practice.

  • The ability to build trusting relationships and communicate complex information clearly.

  • A collaborative approach to working with whānau and multidisciplinary colleagues.

  • A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, culturally safe practice and kaupapa Māori service delivery.

  • Initiative, flexibility and an interest in helping shape a new service.

  • A full New Zealand driver licence.

  • An understanding of FASD or neuro developmental needs would be an advantage, alongside a willingness to continue learning.

Benefits

Join an organisation where you can see the connection between your work and the wellbeing of your community.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Help establish a new service and influence how it develops.

  • Work within an inclusive team grounded in tikanga, shared purpose and strong relationships.

  • Collaborate across health and social services to support the whole whānau.

  • Contribute your ideas to an organisation that actively evolves its services.

  • Develop your practice through professional development and reflective learning.
