Confidential search. Client name released under NDA.
Our client is an established industrial manufacturer with a connected-device portfolio that has outgrown how it is currently managed. Sensing hardware, embedded firmware, cellular, wired, Wi-Fi and satellite connectivity, cloud services, dashboards and mobile apps. One leader is being brought in to own the whole of it.
This is a player-coach seat. You will lead a small product management team and stay personally in the work: customer discovery, requirements, and the initiatives that matter most. Engineering expertise is welcome but not required. Strong technical fluency is essential.
What you'll own:
- The end-to-end product experience across devices, firmware, connectivity, cloud services, APIs, dashboards and mobile applications
- Translating field workflows into clear requirements, acceptance criteria and priorities
- Tradeoffs with engineering on measurement accuracy, battery life, reporting frequency, coverage, reliability and total cost
- Requirements for installation, provisioning, activation, remote diagnostics, firmware updates and fleet management
- Full lifecycle from discovery and concept validation through field pilots, launch, improvement and end of life
- Portfolio strategy, business cases, and recommendations on pricing and packaging with sales, finance and leadership
- Coaching a small product team while keeping your own hands on the work
What we need to see:
- 7+ years in product management covering connected devices, industrial IoT, instrumentation, telemetry or related hardware-enabled solutions
- Experience leading or mentoring product managers and running cross-functional initiatives
- Demonstrated success bringing hardware-enabled products to market and managing them through the lifecycle
- Working knowledge of hardware, firmware, connectivity, cloud services, APIs and web or mobile applications, with the ability to hold your own on technical tradeoffs
- Strong discovery, roadmap prioritization, business case and commercial decision-making skills
- Comfortable working independently in a remote, lean organization
- Bachelor's degree in business, technology, engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience
Helpful but not required:
- Remote asset monitoring, industrial sensing, chemical management or related applications
- Cellular, satellite, Wi-Fi and wired connectivity and what each means for coverage, power, reliability and operating cost
- Hardware-plus-recurring-revenue models, including connectivity subscriptions and bundled offerings
- Contract manufacturers, supply chain constraints, certifications and new product introduction
- Device provisioning, remote diagnostics, over-the-air firmware updates and fleet management
- B2B channel, distributor, OEM or white-label models
This is B2B. Consumer IoT is not the market.
If you have carried a connected product from silicon through subscription and want the whole portfolio rather than a slice of it, let's have a confidential conversation.
