About us
Whare Tiaki Hauora is a kaupapa Maaori health provider based in Taamaki Makaurau. We began as a community marae in South Auckland in 1977 and have grown into a trusted provider delivering a wide range of health and wellbeing services across metro Auckland and into rural Counties Manukau and North Waikato.
We are one of five Waikato-Tainui network providers mandated by the iwi to serve their people. Our work is guided by kaupapa Maaori principles — placing the needs of whaanau at the centre of everything we do.
The opportunity
We are looking for an experienced nurse leader to take on a senior leadership role within our Oranga Tinana team. This is a fixed-term, full-time position based in East Taamaki. You will report operationally to our Service Manager and have a clinical reporting line to our Clinical Director.
You will lead three closely connected services: our Hauora Hub, our Mobile Nursing team, and our Immunisation services. These are the engine of our nursing delivery and this role provides the day-to-day leadership, clinical oversight and people management that hold them together.
You will lead a multidisciplinary team of Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, Vaccinators and Kaiaawhina. Together, your team will ensure whaanau receive safe, high-quality, coordinated care that supports them to achieve their own health and wellbeing goals.
Key responsibilities
• Lead the day-to-day operations of the Hauora Hub, Mobile Nursing Immunisation services, and lead the triage of new referrals.
• Provide visible leadership, clinical oversight and people management across the team.
• Oversee care coordination for whaanau with long-term conditions and complex health and social needs.
• Lead immunisation service delivery, including the full National Immunisation Schedule, cold chain compliance and reporting to the Aotearoa Immunisation Register.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with primary and secondary health providers to create smooth, connected pathways for whaanau.
• Use data to drive quality improvement and ensure safe, equitable service delivery.
• Lead recruitment, induction, performance development, clinical supervision and pastoral support for nursing staff.
• Maintain your own clinical scope and hold a small complex caseload where needed.
• Uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and kaupapa Maaori practice across all aspects of the role.
• Contribute to health and safety, accurate record-keeping and clinical information systems.
• Lead handover, case discussion, internal clinical audits and mentor new nurses and student nurses.
What you bring
At a minimum, you will:
• Hold a current New Zealand Registered Nurse practising certificate.
• Have at least 5 years of post-registration experience, including experience in a senior, leadership or management role.
• Hold current Authorised Vaccinator status, or be willing to obtain this within an agreed timeframe.
• Have proven experience leading or managing people and coordinating service delivery.
• Have experience working with whaanau Maaori, with a genuine commitment to cultural safety and equity.
• Have a working knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how it applies in practice.
• Have a working knowledge of te reo me oona tikanga Maaori.
• Hold a full, clean New Zealand driver’s licence.
• Be competent with computer systems and clinical software.
• Demonstrate strong communication skills — written, verbal and interpersonal.
• Be self-reflective and bring a strong whaanau-centred approach to your mahi.
It would be great if you also have:
• A postgraduate diploma or master’s degree in a relevant clinical, leadership or management area.
• Experience managing immunisation delivery and cold chain compliance.
• Experience working in community or primary health settings.
• Experience leading quality improvement initiatives.
