Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or PA-C – Neuro Hospitalist (7 on / 7 off)

Responsibilities
As a neuro hospitalist APP, you will be part of the inpatient team caring for patients with acute stroke, seizures, brain injury and other neurological conditions in the emergency department, ICU and telemetry units. You will assess new admissions and consults, perform and document detailed neurological exams, review imaging and test results with the neurologists, and help build and carry out each patient's plan of care.
You will respond to code stroke activations alongside the team, round on your patients through each shift, and coordinate closely with neurology, neurosurgery, hospitalist and nursing colleagues. Teaching patients and families about their diagnosis, treatment and follow-up is a regular part of the role. On the 7-on / 7-off rotation, your working weeks are focused and busy, and your weeks off are fully your own.

- Manage neurology and stroke patients in acute and critical care units
- Perform and document detailed neurological exams
- Respond to code stroke activations
- Coordinate care with neurology, neurosurgery and hospitalist colleagues
- Teach patients and families about their care plans
- Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP / AGACNP) or Physician Assistant (PA-C)
- Current Texas APRN or Texas PA license
- BLS and ACLS
- At least 2 years of inpatient or hospital-based NP or PA experience
- Neurology or neuro-ICU experience
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) or ENLS certification
- Comfort with EEG interpretation and neurological procedures
