Medical Receptionist – Casual
Napier Urgent Care, Napier, Hawke’s Bay
Be the welcoming face of our team!
Do you enjoy working with people, thrive in a busy environment, and take pride in providing excellent customer service? Napier Urgent Care is looking for a friendly, organised and adaptable Medical Receptionist to join our team on a casual basis.
As a key member of our reception team, you’ll play an important role in ensuring patients feel welcomed, supported and well cared for when they visit our centre. Working in a busy urgent and after-hours healthcare environment, no two days are quite the same!
About the role
This is a varied, hands-on position where excellent communication, attention to detail and the ability to juggle competing priorities are essential. You’ll be helping to keep things running smoothly while providing a positive experience for patients, their families and our clinical team.
Your responsibilities will include:
Welcoming and registering patients on arrival.
Answering telephone calls and responding to enquiries in a professional and friendly manner.
Completing patient administration, accurate data entry and general clerical duties.
Managing invoicing and receiving payments.
Providing day-to-day administrative support to the wider team.
Helping maintain a calm, efficient and welcoming reception environment, even during busy periods.
What we’re looking for
We’re seeking someone who is approachable, dependable and quick to learn, with a positive attitude and a genuine commitment to helping others.
You’ll bring:
Excellent people skills – warm, professional and confident communication, both face-to-face and over the phone.
Strong attention to detail – with accurate data entry and good organisational skills.
Adaptability and initiative – able to think on your feet, manage competing priorities and respond positively to change.
A team-focused approach – comfortable working independently while contributing positively to a supportive team.
Confidence under pressure – able to remain calm, professional and respectful when conversations become challenging, and to help de-escalate difficult situations.
A practical, problem-solving mindset – with a willingness to learn and take on a variety of tasks.
Experience with Evolution software and immediate availability would be an advantage, but are not essential. Most importantly, we’re looking for the right person with the right attitude and a willingness to learn.
Hours and benefits
This is a casual position, providing flexible cover and support for our existing reception team. Shifts may include daytime, evening, weekend and public holiday work, between 7:45 am and 8:15 pm.
We offer competitive hourly rates, including applicable penal rates, and the opportunity to be part of a professional team delivering an important service to our community.
