Massey High School is seeking a Building Tutor commencing in the 2027 school year.

This is an opportunity for an experienced building professional to step into a rewarding role where they can share their industry knowledge, develop practical skills and help shape the future of young people entering the building and construction industry.

As a part of the Auckland West Vocational Academies, Massey Building Academy based at Massey High School is a unique secondary school programme that gives students the opportunity to gain hands on construction experience while completing their secondary education. Through real building projects, students develop practical trade skills, industry knowledge and the work habits required to succeed in the construction industry.

As the Building Tutor, you'll lead and supervise students in Years 12 and 13, through all stages of the construction process, from foundations and framing through to interior finishing and project completion. You'll deliver practical training, demonstrate correct building techniques, maintain high standards of workmanship and ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with relevant building standards and requirements.

Working alongside the Head of Massey Building Academy, school staff, BCITO and industry partners, you'll support students to develop their confidence, professionalism and understanding of what it takes to become a successful tradesperson.

You'll play an important role in creating a positive, structured and productive learning environment where students are encouraged to take responsibility, work as part of a team and develop the skills and attitudes expected on a professional building site.
