BMS SERVICE & COMMISSIONING ENGINEER
London
Up to £58,000 + Company Car or £6,825 Car Allowance + Bonus + Benefits
Up to £58,000 + Company Car or £6,825 Car Allowance + Bonus + Benefits
If you’re already a BMS Service Engineer, moving somewhere else to do the same round of PPM visits probably isn’t much of a reason to leave.
This role gives you broader involvement.
You’ll combine planned and reactive service work with fault-finding, condition surveys and the engineering and commissioning of smaller BMS works. That can take you from diagnosing an issue on an existing system through software, commissioning and documentation to demonstrating the finished work to the customer.
You’ll receive up to £58,000 plus your choice of a company car or £6,825 car allowance, performance-related bonus and wider benefits.
WHAT YOU'LL ACTUALLY BE DOING AND WHY IT MATTERS
You’ll look after BMS systems across London, carrying out planned maintenance while diagnosing and resolving faults when systems aren’t operating as intended.
That includes maintaining software and strategy backups, understanding site architecture and producing useful reports that explain both the work completed and any recommendations that follow from it.
You’ll also carry out condition surveys and attend reactive breakdowns in line with customer SLAs.
Where the role becomes broader than straightforward service is through small works.
You can be involved in controls procurement, software creation, wiring and commissioning schedules, panel drawing updates, Descriptions of Operation and O&M documentation.
You’ll then commission the controls, resolve engineering issues and take smaller works through demonstration and handover.
WHY THIS ROLE COULD BE BETTER
The difference is that your involvement doesn’t necessarily stop when a service visit identifies further work.
You can also get involved in engineering and delivering the solution.
That gives you a practical combination of:
• BMS service, diagnostics and condition surveys
• Software, engineering and small-works commissioning
• Customer relationships, subcontractor coordination and handover
• Software, engineering and small-works commissioning
• Customer relationships, subcontractor coordination and handover
There’s also scope to broaden your systems knowledge.
Relevant experience can come from Trend, Tridium, Schneider, Siemens or ALC, with knowledge of Niagara-based systems required. Additional systems training will be provided where necessary.
For an experienced BMS Service & Commissioning Engineer, that creates an opportunity to build broader technical capability rather than simply changing employer and continuing with the same maintenance remit.
ESSENTIALS
You’ll need proven hands-on BMS experience and the technical ability to investigate faults and work effectively on customer sites.
You should have experience with at least one of the following BMS platforms:
• Trend, Tridium or Schneider
• Siemens or ALC
• Plus knowledge of Niagara-based systems
• Siemens or ALC
• Plus knowledge of Niagara-based systems
You’ll also need a good understanding of HVAC systems, electrical competence and the ability to interpret and alter existing BMS control strategies.
Because this is customer-facing work, you’ll need to communicate technical issues clearly and produce practical reports and recommendations.
You may also supervise junior engineers and manage subcontractors where required.
THE CHALLENGES
This is a genuine service-based engineering role, so the workload won’t consist entirely of planned visits.
You’ll attend reactive call-outs and breakdowns according to customer SLAs alongside PPM and small works. Specific rota frequency and additional call-out payment arrangements have not been confirmed.
You’ll also need to move comfortably between different responsibilities. One visit may involve diagnosing an existing controls problem, while a small works project can add software, equipment procurement, documentation, programme requirements and final handover.
The role is London based, working across customer sites.
YOUR DEVELOPMENT
The development opportunity comes from broadening both your systems knowledge and the type of engineering you undertake.
Alongside service and fault diagnosis, you can build further experience in condition surveys, software creation, controls procurement, small-works commissioning, technical documentation and customer handover.
The BMS environments can include Trend, Tridium, Schneider, Siemens and ALC, with additional systems training provided where necessary.
There’s also scope within the role to provide technical knowledge to colleagues, supervise junior engineers and coordinate subcontractors.
