Brownie Construction is looking for an experienced Senior Estimator to join its Queenstown team in a full-time, office-based position.

This is a key role within the business, responsible for measuring, pricing and preparing tenders across a range of commercial and residential construction projects.

We’re looking for someone with strong New Zealand construction experience who understands the estimating process from initial documentation and take-offs through to final tender submission.

The role

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you’ll be responsible for preparing estimates and tenders across Brownie Construction’s commercial and residential projects.

You’ll work closely with the wider commercial and construction teams, independently managing the detail of your own tenders while remaining part of an experienced commercial function.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Completing detailed measurements and quantity take-offs from construction drawings and specifications

• Preparing accurate estimates and tender submissions

• Building up project costs using labour, material and subcontractor pricing

• Obtaining and reviewing subcontractor and supplier quotations

• Checking scope coverage and identifying gaps or inconsistencies

• Preparing tender comparisons and assessing subcontractor pricing

• Developing cost plans and first-principles estimates

• Identifying commercial risks, exclusions and opportunities during the tender process

• Working through tender clarifications and documentation

• Supporting tender handover into the delivery and commercial teams once projects are secured

• Maintaining accurate estimating records, pricing information and tender documentation

What we’re looking for

• Proven experience independently managing construction estimates and tenders within the New Zealand market

• Strong commercial construction estimating experience

• Experience across residential construction would also be valuable

• Strong measuring and quantity take-off capability

• Proven experience taking tenders from initial measure and pricing through to final submission

• Ability to interpret architectural, structural and services drawings, specifications and tender documentation

• Strong understanding of construction methodology, sequencing and project costs

• Experience obtaining, reviewing and analysing subcontractor and supplier pricing

• Experience working with New Zealand construction contracts, including NZS 3910, 3916 and 3917, would be advantageous.

The role offers a $170,000 salary and the opportunity to play an important part in securing and pricing future work across a strong pipeline of commercial and residential projects.
