Engineer precision parts for the world’s most famous superyachts

Muir is a Tasmanian maritime engineering and manufacturing business, known worldwide for high-quality anchoring systems for vessels of every size. Our equipment is fitted to some of the world’s best-known superyachts, and we’re proud to keep that work made in Australia.

We’re looking for a CNC Machinist Engineer who can do more than run a machine: someone who programs, optimises and improves the processes behind each part. You’ll take the lead on our Okuma LB3000EXII twin-spindle, live-tooled lathe, turning complex, highly customised components for superyacht and commercial projects into efficient, repeatable production.

What you’ll be doing

  • Taking ownership of programming, setup, operation and maintenance of our Okuma LB3000EXII twin-spindle lathe, getting the most out of its live tooling and sub-spindle capability

  • Programming and running our other CNC lathes and mills, with manual machining when the job calls for it

  • Developing machining strategies, tooling selections and workholding solutions to reduce cycle times and improve consistency

  • Producing batch and one-off components to tight tolerances and drawing specifications

  • Reviewing engineering drawings, flagging manufacturability issues and feeding design improvements back to the engineering team

  • Driving continuous improvement in how our components are manufactured

  • Keeping the workshop clean, organised and well maintained

  • Leading by example on workshop safety

What you’ll bring

  • A recognised tertiary engineering degree and metalworking trade qualification as a Machinist (e.g. Certificate III in Engineering – Machining)

  • Proven experience programming and operating twin-spindle, live-tooled CNC lathes, ideally Okuma or similar

  • Proven experience programming using FANUC Controllers, ONE CNC, Okuma I.G.F. proficiency Autodesk Inventor would also be highly valued

  • Strong drawing interpretation skills, with a sound grasp of GD&T and tolerancing

  • An engineering mindset: you look for better ways to make parts, not just faster ways to run them

  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Experience with continuous improvement or lean manufacturing (desirable, not essential)

  • A flexible, team-first attitude and willingness to help across the workshop as workflow requires

  • Permanent Australian residency

What we offer

  • 7:00am – 3:30pm workday with a monthly RDO

  • Varied, technically challenging machining work on world-class marine products

  • Formal training and genuine career development

  • Flexible working arrangements

  • PPE provided

  • A supportive team with a strong workshop culture

If you’re a skilled CNC machinist with an engineer’s eye for process and precision, we’d love to hear from you.
