We are looking for a sous chef to join our team at Cardrona Distillery.
Recently won a Hat at the Cuisine Good Awards, Cardrona Distillery is a culinary gem in the beautiful Cardrona Valley, located between Queenstown and Wānaka. We craft exceptional cuisine showcasing our premium spirits and flavour, using local, ethically sourced produce in a fun and creative team environment
Key Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities
Menu Development: Assist in creating innovative and seasonal dishes that showcase local ingredients that complement our award-winning spirits.
Food Preparation and Cooking: Execute food preparation and presentation to the highest standard, ensuring consistency and quality. Discussing any preparation issues with managers, wait staff and Kitchen team.
Kitchen Management: Oversee the kitchen team in the Head Chef’s absence, ensuring productive, quality, and teamwork.
Health and Safety: Uphold food safety and hygiene standards, ensuring compliance with all regulations.
Inventory Control: Monitor stock levels, assist with ordering supplies, and manage wastage efficiently.
Team Development: Mentor and train kitchen staff, fostering a positive and professional work environment.
Qualifications and Skills Needed
A New Zealand Certificate in cookery level 4 or equivalent or a diploma in culinary arts
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a professional kitchen
To excel in this role, you will need:
Strong organisational and time management skills.
A thorough understanding of food safety regulations.
The ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
A passion for ethical, locally sourced ingredients and New Zealand cuisine.
What We Offer
Competitive hourly wage based on experience.
Full time – permanent: Working a 6 day on 3 day off rotating roster, with a minimum 35 hours per week.
