Senior Accountant | Business Advisory Services(BAS)

Advisory-Focused Firm | Quality Clients | Career Progression

An opportunity for an experienced Senior Accountant to join a well-established, multi-partner accounting firm with a strong focus on business advisory, complex client work and long-term career development.

This role is suited to someone already working in a chartered accounting firm who wants to move beyond traditional compliance and gain greater exposure to advisory, financial modelling and commercial projects.

About the Firm

This is an established multi-partner practice that has successfully developed a strong advisory offering alongside its core accounting and tax services.

The firm works with a diverse portfolio of local, national and international clients, including privately owned businesses, high-net-worth individuals, financial services businesses, private equity groups and multinational organisations.

Many clients have annual turnovers ranging from $5 million to $30 million+, providing exposure to more complex accounting, tax and commercial matters.

The Partners are actively involved in client engagements, giving staff the opportunity to work directly with experienced professionals across business advisory, M&A, financial reporting and strategic consulting.

The Role

You'll work across a combination of technical accounting, client management and business advisory engagements.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing client relationships and acting as a key point of contact

  • Preparing and reviewing financial statements and tax compliance work

  • Working on complex accounting matters, including IFRS reporting

  • Preparing budgets, forecasts, cash flow projections and financial models

  • Supporting business valuations, due diligence and acquisition-related projects

  • Providing advice on business structures, performance and growth opportunities

  • Working directly with Partners on more complex advisory engagements

  • Taking on increasing responsibility for reviewing work, managing workflow and mentoring junior staff

The role offers the opportunity to develop your technical skills while building the commercial and relationship management experience needed to progress into management.

What You'll Need

  • Previous experience working in a New Zealand chartered accounting firm, ideally at Senior Accountant level

  • CA qualified or working towards CA qualification

  • Strong knowledge of NZ accounting standards and tax compliance

  • Experience preparing financial statements and tax returns for a range of business clients

  • Familiarity with accounting software such as Xero, MYOB or similar

  • Confidence communicating directly with clients

  • An interest in developing further experience across business advisory and more complex technical work

Previous exposure to financial modelling, valuations or transaction advisory would be advantageous but is not essential.

Please note: This position requires previous experience in public practice. Candidates with exclusively commercial accounting backgrounds are unlikely to be suitable.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • Work with established businesses, larger corporate groups and international clients

  • Gain exposure to advisory projects beyond standard accounting and tax compliance

  • Work directly with experienced Partners on technical and commercial engagements

  • Develop your skills across financial modelling, valuations, structuring and M&A

  • Progress towards Client Manager, Manager and potentially Partner level

  • Opportunities to take on more responsibility based on your experience and ability

  • One day working from home, with additional flexibility when needed

  • Join an established firm with a strong client base and continued opportunities for growth
