Inframax is looking for an experienced Environmental Engineer to take the lead in strengthening environmental management, compliance and sustainability across our civil construction, maintenance and quarry operations.
This is more than a traditional compliance role. You’ll have the opportunity to build systems, influence operations, manage environmental risk and help shape how Inframax approaches environmental performance and sustainability.
What you’ll be doing
Build and improve environmental systems - leading the development and digitalisation of environmental management systems and prepare Inframax for ISO 14001 accreditation.
Provide practical field support - work across construction and quarry sites to manage environmental risks and ensure compliance with resource consents.
Monitor and manage key risks - including dust, noise, water, sediment, erosion and other environmental impacts.
Lead audits and investigations - identify issues, implement improvements and ensure environmental controls are effective.
Build strong relationships - work with operational teams, regulators, councils, iwi, customers and other stakeholders.
Support business growth - contribute environmental expertise to tenders, projects and commercial opportunities.
Drive sustainability initiatives - support ESG and carbon reduction initiatives as the business continues to develop its environmental capability.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for an experienced environmental professional who can take ownership, work confidently in the field and turn environmental requirements into practical solutions.
You’ll ideally have:
A degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Resource Planning or a related discipline.
5+ years’ environmental management experience, ideally within civil construction, infrastructure, utilities, quarrying or another heavy industry.
Strong knowledge of resource consent compliance and environmental monitoring.
Experience with water management, sediment and erosion control.
Experience developing or improving Environmental Management Systems, ideally with exposure to ISO 14001 accreditation.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
The confidence to work with everyone from frontline teams through to senior leaders, regulators and customers.
You’ll be someone who:
Is practical and solutions-focused - you understand what works in the real world.
Can balance environmental requirements with operational and commercial outcomes.
Is confident working in the field and engaging with operational teams.
Can influence, challenge and build credibility at all levels.
Takes ownership and enjoys building something rather than simply maintaining the status quo.
Why join Inframax?
This is an opportunity to build and shape the environmental function at Inframax and have a visible impact on how environmental management is embedded across the business.
You’ll work across construction, maintenance and quarry operations, giving you genuine variety and the opportunity to influence environmental performance across the full breadth of the organisation.
If you're ready to take your environmental expertise beyond compliance and help shape a more sustainable, resilient and commercially successful business, we’d like to hear from you.
