Love being outdoors, know your hebes from your hydrangeas, and enjoy bringing the best out of the people around you? We're looking for a Garden Maintenance Team Leader to run our new gardening team across Wellington City.
Oliver's Army looks after gardens all over Wellington, from regular maintenance clients who've trusted us for years to one-off jobs that need a bit of everything. With Spring knocking on the door we are expanding and need you!
What the role looks like
This is a hands-on gardening role, you'll be out on the tools every day, with the added responsibility of leading your team and being the face of Oliver's Army on site.
• Running your team's day, working through the run, setting the pace, and making sure every job is finished to a standard you're proud of
• Getting stuck in alongside your team: pruning, hedging, weeding, planting, mulching, lawns and general garden maintenance
• Being the on-site point of contact for clients, saying hello, answering questions, and flagging anything extra the garden might need
• Mentoring newer gardeners and helping them build their plant knowledge and technique
• Looking after the vehicle and gear, keeping everything clean, safe and in good working order
• Keeping health and safety front of mind for your team and everyone around the site
What we're looking for
• Solid horticultural knowledge: you can identify common plants and know how and when to prune them
• Proven experience in garden maintenance or landscaping, ideally with some team leading or 2IC experience under your belt
• Confident, friendly communicator: comfortable chatting with clients while you work
• Well organised, with a good sense of how long a job should take and how to keep a day on track
• A genuine eye for detail: you notice the edge that wasn't quite finished and you go back and do it
• Full, clean NZ driver's licence
• Physically fit and happy working outdoors in all of Wellington's weather
What we offer
• A full-time, permanent role with a growing local business
• Support from our Head Gardener, Operations Manager and Garden Field Manager and other Team Leaders
• Training and the chance to grow your skills and your career with us
• A friendly, down-to-earth team who genuinely love what they do
• Bacon and Eggs every Monday morning
• A company that puts you first instead of the job!
