Pasta Vera is a New Zealand-owned food manufacturer based in Wigram, Christchurch. We make fresh pasta, sauces, pesto, lasagne and ready meals, and operate a busy production facility running from Sunday night to Friday.

We're looking for practical, reliable and hardworking people to join our production team.

We have two permanent positions available, with different hours and experience requirements.

Available Positions

1. Machine Operator – Permanent Night Shift

We're looking for someone mechanically minded with hands-on experience operating industrial machinery.

You'll work across different production and packing machines, carrying out setups, changeovers, adjustments and troubleshooting to keep production running smoothly.

  • Guaranteed minimum of 32 hours per week, with additional hours depending on production requirements.

  • Normal shifts: Sunday to Thursday nights, 8pm–4am (finishing Friday morning).

  • Previous machine-operating experience and mechanical aptitude are important.

  • Pay based on experience, with applicable night-shift arrangements.

2. Production & Packing Operator – Permanent Part-Time

We're looking for reliable people who enjoy hands-on work and are willing to learn different production and packing processes.

You'll help make and pack our products, operate equipment after training and support different areas of the factory.

  • Guaranteed minimum of 15 hours per week, with additional hours often available.

  • Shifts rostered Monday to Friday, between 4am and 10:30pm.

  • Flexible availability across morning and afternoon shifts is highly valued.

  • Availability for occasional night shifts (8pm–4am) is an advantage and may provide additional hours.

  • Opportunity to progress to full-time employment in the future, depending on business needs.

  • Previous manufacturing experience is an advantage but not essential. Training is provided.

About the Roles

Depending on your position and training, your responsibilities will include:

  • Setting up, operating and monitoring production and packing machinery.

  • Preparing ingredients and materials for production.

  • Carrying out machine changeovers, adjustments and basic troubleshooting.

  • Checking product quality, packaging and labels.

  • Completing production and quality records accurately.

  • Cleaning equipment and maintaining safe, hygienic work areas.

  • Helping across different production and packing areas as required.

About You

We're looking for people who are:

  • Reliable, punctual and hardworking.

  • Practical, hands-on and willing to learn.

  • Comfortable working in a busy manufacturing environment.

  • Able to follow instructions and pay attention to detail.

  • Good team players who can adapt to different tasks.

  • Committed to Health & Safety and Food Safety.

For the night Machine Operator position, previous machinery experience and practical troubleshooting ability are particularly important.

For the part-time position, reliability, attitude and availability are our main priorities.

Why Join Us

You'll join a growing New Zealand food manufacturer with an established team, a variety of machinery and opportunities to learn new skills and develop within the business.

How to Apply

Please submit your CV and a short cover letter covering just two things:

  1. Which position are you applying for, what hours are you available, when can you start, and what is your expected hourly rate (NZD)?

  2. Briefly describe your relevant hands-on experience, including any machinery you have personally operated or worked with.

Please also confirm that you have the right to work in New Zealand.

Keep it short and specific. We're interested in your actual experience, not a long cover letter.

Applications without a cover letter addressing these questions will not be considered.
